ok 3aidah
how will you make your interviews based on this?

who is the staff member that you will interview? your choice has to relate to the theme, remember that. Also, remember to make it fresh and i would like to see the questions you prepared before you go to interview.

and what kind of small chat's and polls you would like to make?
i suggest you use the university forum to do a poll but meet with real people to get inspired about that question first.

well, well, this is progressing nicely!

giving direct advice is rather boring. don't you think?
why no make it as personal experiences?
like interview some students and ask them what mistakes they did in the past? and what good things they did and how they benefit from it.

NO try to do the interviews as soon as you can!!
try to approach your upper-class mates

then introduce your self :
Hello, I am Folanah Al-Fulani, a reporter from Smile Magazine of the English department. Can i have 5 minutes of your time?

don't forget to take notes of what she says and ask her for her name.
it is better to get her real name, if not then the first name and initials. like : Nora H

Sahar

Hi all...
i've got an idea...
why do not we make it specialized in self-development in college life...
plus the topic that we want to cover....so it is a self development magazine in the first place..but it also covers the main issues that stdz may face...

so I think by this way every std have a reason to pick this magazine...
.
another thing..
when it should be published?? ...I do not know i just think about making some advertisement to make sure that every std in our department knows about it...
just Smile

Manar

Manar

yes Sahar,

*the same Q when it's gonna be published. !

*about the self-development thing,
i think it's the most important theme,
how about every month we bring a story for a student who suffered at the beginning and how she developed and solved her problems and how she changes + techniques, Suggested books to read and advices for a successful college life

-------

*and I want to suggest sth I don't know about you guys
how about a column talks about personal problems?
We put an e-mail to send their problems to it without names and we try to solve it,
of course it will be published so anyone can get advantage of it
I hear problems all the times !

huh?

18Your first subject Empty Re: Your first subject Tue Feb 02, 2010 4:21 am

Ms. Dana

so the topic of this month is starting fresh and improving? awesome.

the date of publishing depends on how fast we can finish.
If we finish during the vacation and present it to Ms. Mashael on Sat. then its probably gonna be the first week.. will take 2 days to be printed in the men section and sent back to us.

About every month we bring a new story with the same idea? isn't that repetitive? every month there will be an interview with a graduate student but each time the focus will shift depending to the theme of the issue. I don't want to force my opinion so we can vote on it later.

the column about Q & A's is not a bad idea. It lacks originality, though. Plus, are we sure that we will give the right advice at the right time?
I would like to see what every one thinks. Again, i don't want to force my ideas. if every one likes it the we will do it. (y)

i just don't wish the magazine to be boring.

I want it interesting and new.

Don't think just because we will work hard on it, people will just love it.
We should put effort where people want it.

when you write something, ask your self.
Will i want to read about this?

things like :
10 things to do at the beginning of a school year
or
Ask Mama Aneesah

are very useful, yes but very boring too.

We can approach the useful part and still be original but we need to be creative.

students need advices, sure. HOW to present it to them and still keep the readers engaged?

Since every level has their own needs why not interview people who are finishing that level and ask them to leave a note for the coming students. what are the things they know NOW but wish some one told them before?

this will make every one want to read this interview , especially since it's about this level.

your Friend Sahar had an idea about how to have a healthy relation ship with the teaching staff?
We have an interview with a teacher, right? we should choose the teacher who is the standard of teachers that students are afraid to talk to, then break the ice with her. The teacher is human, too. and we need to show that. our readers will want to see how this teacher talks out of class, won;t they? It will be interesting to read and we still got our point through with out being DIRECT.

thank you for reading this long rant XD.

in Saudi some people don't tell in fear of the "evil-eye" <--- thats the name in English. they have it too. xD

which really is annoying! like back when i taught in school, another teacher got pregnant without even telling us she got married! and even then she lied and said she was fat.

people are crazy.

but it's their private matter.
So, we should only post the people who asked us to announce it.

So, Who wants to take over this? i believe it to be Fairly Easy.

How to do it?

since it's the first issue, why not get the help of the imam forum?
Announce there and ask who ever had a special occasion last semester to send you an e-mail with her name and her baby's as well. If she got married/engaged only her name.

Also, Whoever wants to take this, should do it ASAP (as soon as possible).

Make sure you sound official when you put the announcement:

like:

"in behalf of Smile Magazine, the official magazine of the department, I would like to announce that there will be a section to celebrate happy occasions that students had this semester as a new baby, engagement or marriage.

If you would like to have every one at the university share your happy news, please send me an e-mail with your first and last name in English and if there was a baby, its name too.

Thank you,

hi again... Your first subject Icon_biggrin
can not wait to see our magazine ready.......seems really GREAT....
here r some ideas...
.
-wt about page the contains some of jobs opportunities for english student...or college stdz in general...many girls want chances like this but they fail in searching for such things in the right way...
............
-since we r in islamic uni,i see making a column or half a page to introduce beginner caller for islam..i remember last summer i met great great girls who speak english well and call for islam in creative ways..i was shocked when they told me that they r from imam uni ...and i do believe that we have lots of these girls who did not have the chance yet to show their talent in this field..
...........
-about making page for stdz problems....i talked to a psychological professor about this part..and she is happy to help...
.........
-wt about asking one or two teachers to write their college experiences..obstacles they got over...problems that affected them....just to tell that facing problems in uni is not the end of the life....and they still have the chance to shine and succeed
.
just...
waiting ur opinions Your first subject Icon_smile

First, it is my honor to be one of this team. Second, Sahar you are a ghost, your thought are similar to mine Your first subject Icon_surprised .
About the pages, I have an idea and I hope that you will like it. The idea is to have a special page for medical problems especially for women problems. And about that I havt talked to my uncles and they were happy to help us.

The teachers' experiences page, I prefer to make a vote in the campus' fourm to ask the girls about which teacher the would loke to know about.
